How safe is Australia?
Australia is very safe, with a low crime rate, political stability and a harmonious society. The incidence of robbery and assault is relatively low and Australia has strict anti-gun and drug laws.
Australia is an open society, based on equality for all people. The Australian Government is democratically elected and is not ruled by the military nor based on religion. Australia is part of the British Commonwealth.
How much does it cost to study abroad?
It varies depending on the program and length of stay. To understand how much it is likely to cost you, when taking into consideration your individual circumstances contact us to discuss further.
When should I start planning my study abroad experience?
The earlier you start planning the better. This gives you that much more time to make sure that all your study requirements are in order, and that you've looked at all the options open to you. Also, after all that planning, the actual experience will be that much better.
Do I need to be fluent in a foreign language to study abroad?
NO. You do not need to be fluent in a foreign language. While many programs require knowledge of a foreign language, you may study English there. In fact, the opportunaty to immerse yourself in an environment with other people speaking English is the best way to learn and become fluent in the language.
Where can I study overseas?
Students can choose from study abroad options worldwide in Australia, New Zealand, Europe, the Americas, Singapore, and Canada.
Where will I live overseas?
When discussing your individual preferrence your counsellor with The Oak will discuss accomadation options available to you. This can include, home stay, renting a flat or unit, or university accomodation etc.
Can I speak with a student who has studied abroad with The Oak?
Yes, of course! We have a number of students who have expressed a willingness to answer questions about their study abroad experiences with The Oak. Please e-mail us to request a peer advisor.
Who will show me around once I get to Australia?
The Oak offers an airport pick-up and orientation tour in Sydney. As a free service we will also assist you in establishing yourself once in Australia by helping you with things such as getting a mobile phone, Tax File Number and open a bank account in Australia.
Students going to homestay accommodation are usually met at the airport by their host family. Many institutions offer an orientation service, taking you through the city or town and around campus to help you become familiar with your new surroundings.
